May 4th is Audrey Hepburn’s birthday. I attended a fabulous presentation last summer hosted by Kimberly Truhler of GlamAmor at the Annenburg Beach House that was completely devoted to style icon Audrey Hepburn.

Here are some fun facts that Kimberly shared with us in addition to her marvelous slide presentation:

  1. Audrey was 5 ‘ 5″
  2. She was skinny and liked to wear skinny black slacks and fitted tops with either kitten heels or flats. Her own style was very much translated into the characters she played in films.
  3. Coco Chanel is credited with creating the little black dress but it was Audrey Hepburn who put it on the map. Her bateau neckline, black dress that she wore in Sabrina was the dress that really inspired women to see how utterly chic and elegant the LBD could be.
  4. She did not like red lipstick. She preferred blush tones and liked to play up her brows
  5. She always paid for her clothes from Givenchy.
  6. She would have it written in her film contracts that she got to keep the clothes
  7. In one of her lesser known films, Two For The Road, the costumes were designed by British designers including Mary Quaint,Paco Rabanne, and Andre Courreges

Thank you Kimberly for sharing your knowledge about Audrey and how she continues to influence fashion, runways and red carpets today!
